A neuropsychological test battery is designed to evaluate different areas of brain functioning including intellectual capacities, attention, learning and memory, language processing, abstract reasoning, organizing and planning, complex problem solving, academic abilities, as well as emotional functioning. Challenges in one of these areas of brain functioning can impact a person's ability to be personally, academically and professionally successful.
There are many common factors that I see in my practice that lead parents and adults to pursue a neuropsychological evaluation including the following: premature births, an early childhood history of developmental delays, illegible handwriting, school refusal, task avoidance, procrastination, perfectionism, ‘meltdowns,’ substance abuse, difficulty establishing and maintaining relationships, academic underachievement, on-the-job frustrations, and marital discord.
